Chris Oldag has over 30 years of experience in the credit union industry, serving in numerous leadership roles and credited with various industry “firsts.” He started his career in 1977 as a Switchman Brakeman/Yard Foreman for the Norfolk and Western Railroad. He then went on to serve as a Loan Officer and Branch Manager for Social Security Administration CU and Longshoreman’s CU from 1980 to 1983. From 1983 to 2009, he worked at Patelco CU in various roles, including Chief Lending Officer, where he implemented numerous lending programs and strategies. He also served as the Chief Lending Officer and Executive Vice President at City County CU in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and as the Special Reconstruction Chief Lending Officer for Silver State Schools CU in Las Vegas, NV. From 2012 to 2022, Chris served as the Chief Lending Officer and Senior Vice President at Pacific Service CU in Concord, CA, where he introduced new lending philosophies and implemented several automated loan origination systems. Currently, Chris mentors and consults with credit union chief lending officers and senior management teams, and enjoys spending time with family, as well as his automotive interests and rowing.

Session 1 – The Numbers and Letters You Need to Understand as a CLO

This kickoff session of CLO Bootcamp will focus on the essential financial metrics and ratios that you need to understand as a CLO. This includes learning how to follow earnings from the income statement to the balance sheet, key ratios from profitability to efficiency, and understanding important concepts such as PLL, IRR, and ROA.

Session 2 – Getting Ready to Buy or Sell CU Loan Participations

Chris will cover important topics you need to know about buying or selling loan participations at your credit union. This includes understanding liquidity sources, investment strategies, and the pros and cons of going direct to the seller versus working with a broker or CUSO. You’ll also learn about NCUA sensitivity and how to navigate this complex process.

Session 3 – Consumer Pre-Screens and Limit Lift Strategies

You’ll learn about consumer pre-screens and limit lift strategies. This includes reviewing selection criteria samples, understanding appended data returned for targeting use, and managing frequency and risk effectively.

Session 4- Consumer, Real Estate, and Commercial Lending Traps to Avoid

Explore the potential traps and pitfalls in consumer, real estate, and commercial lending that you need to avoid. This includes understanding that fintech-originated loans are subject to the same rules as indirect lending, the importance of avoiding concentration in real estate lending, and the challenge of navigating the new language of commercial lending.

Session 5 –Overcome the Lending Challenges in Your Credit Union

This final session will help you overcome the lending challenges that you may face in your credit union. This includes learning how to earn trust during lending processes, automate easy decisions to achieve instant funding, and leverage the power of story lending to earn member loyalty for life.
